Ruthie A. Serrano, born on June 16, 1965, passed away at her home in Colorado Springs, CO, and found peace on December 12, 2022, following a battle against cancer. She is survived by her husband, Enrique “Rick” Serrano, and her sons, Mark A. Mendoza, James E. Serrano, Joseph M. Serrano, Philip A. Serrano, daughters-in-law, Stephanie Mendoza, and Cynthia Serrano. She has eight wonderful grandchildren: Christie, Lely, Grey, Jordan, Andrew, Alissia, Zoey, and Spencer. Ruthie is also survived by her mother Cherry Albo Tucker, stepfather Rich Tucker, and her Uncle Donald Martinez.
After a whirlwind romance, we married young and for 31 years, through thick and thin we were there for each other. Ruthie was a strong Army wife who raised four boys mostly on her own as I tended to military training or deployments. She had a polarizing personality, an extrovert trapped in an introvert’s body, she often found solace in reading, and she had a passion for all types of literature. I will sorely miss her, but I am relieved that she finally has peace and tranquility. ~ Rick
Though a bit unorthodox, I thought it appropriate to let our sons (Mark, James, Joseph, and Phil) add to the obituary.
I will always remember, how when it came to us, Mom was selfless. She always put us first, no matter our age or dilemma. For me, Mom was more than just a mother, she was the shining light against all things that go bump in the night. ~ Mark
My mother was an amazing woman who would take on the world for us. She was kind, smart, and creative. No matter what the problem, I could always count on her to help me find the answer. She will always be with me. ~ James
Mom was one of the spiritually strongest and wisest people I have ever known. She would believe in you even when you had lost hope and stopped believing in yourself. Because of this she will always be loved and remembered in my heart. ~ Joseph
Mom was one of the strongest people in my life, she always put others before herself, even when she had no reason to do so. She helped me become the person I am today and for this, I will never forget her. May she finally rest in peace as she keeps an eye on us for eternity. ~ Phil
