Albert Coffey Jr. Obituary

Albert F. Coffey Jr., age 87, of Colorado Springs, passed away on April 20, 2026. Beloved husband of Charleen Coffey; Brother of Carolyn Allan; Father to: Bryan, Mark, Eric (Shelly), and Amber (Brian Polaski), Proud grandfather to: Aaron (Amanda), Kristen (Matt Mayo), Logan, Juliann (Ben Colwell), Carter Polaski and Lindsay Polaski and newly born great‑grandson Elisha Colwell.

Albert was predeceased by his parents, Albert F. Coffey Sr. and Margie Coffey and recently his wife Charleen.

Albert moved to Colorado from Texas with his family in the mid 1940’s where his father was a beekeeper. Albert met the love of his life, Charleen, at the University of Colorado Boulder and lived in Denver and then Albuquerque. Their partnership became the foundation of a rich and adventurous life together. Together, like his father and uncles before him, Albert and Charleen built a family business in commercial beekeeping, spending summers in North Dakota and winters in Arizona for many years. Their work created a unique rhythm for their family—one filled with hard work and shared purpose. Their journey later took them to California and Indiana in the 80’s/90’s before they eventually retired to La Veta, Colorado in the early 2000s. They celebrated 66 years of marriage this past September, a testament to their deep devotion and enduring bond.

In La Veta, they built a beautiful log home that quickly became the heart of countless family gatherings. Albert spent many hours there smoking brisket and playing games with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed the small-town life of La Veta and his daily routine of going to the post office, gas station, and grocery store and bumping into friends and neighbors along the way. He also enjoyed the community at the town board meetings and even became a town board member.

Albert will be remembered for his great sense of humor and his lifelong support of the CU sports teams and the Denver Broncos. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
