Barbara A. (Hoover) Riffe, 91, went to her heavenly home Thursday, May 11th, 2023, there to join husband, Orville, and son, Terrance (Linda, widow), as well as numerous family and friends. Barbara was born May 22, 1931, in Vinton, Ohio, to Sylvester R. and Reba E. Hoover.
Survived by her beloved sister, Helen Hoover; son, Rodley (Robin) Riffe; daughter, Rebecca (Duane) Potter; son, Daniel (Brenda) Riffe; son, Jonathan (Brooke) Riffe; 19 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, 8 great-great- grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was employed over the years as a soda/ice cream "jerk", W. T. Grant and Arlan's department store cashier, Parkview Hospital housekeeper, Kroger's baker, and nanny. Her favorite "job" was raising babies, and it didn't matter whose.
Circumstances prevented her from graduating high school even though she had taught herself to read at the age of 4 and skipped a grade in school. One of her proudest accomplishments was earning her GED in her 60s.
"Mom", (never "Ma", as she said that sounds like a bawling calf), moved around often when growing up and after she married lived in Charleston/Davis Creek, West Virginia; Toledo/Northwood, Ohio; Summerfield, Florida; Pueblo, Colorado; Buda, Texas, and recently Colorado Springs, Colorado. She loved to travel (when she got "itchy feet" as she called it), packing her little Toyota truck with camping gear and her little dog, Georgie, off she'd go, once as far as Rincon, Mexico.
She loved and was loved well. She will be loved and missed... until we meet again.
A memorial service to celebrate her life, as she wished, with fellowship, songs, and food will be held on Saturday, July 1st at 1pm (MDT) at Freedom Baptist Church, 312 Auburn Dr., Colorado Springs, CO 80909. Please RSVP by text with name and number attending ASAP to 719-251-0473.
