Bertha “Lee” (Hearsum) Witt passed away on 4/18/2023, surrounded by her family. Lee was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Witt, and survived by children: Kim Chestnut (Tom), Lou Anne Smith (Dave), Tracey Rivas, Bill Witt (Catherine); by grandchildren: Nick Chestnut (Ashley), Abby Chestnut (Jake Wilson), Megan Hoff (James), Cori Smith, Will Wilson (Blanca), Chris Rivas (Jess), Anthony Rivas, Arlee Witt, Witt, Jaime Witt; and by great-grandchildren: Kendall Chestnut, Daniel Owens, Skylar Chestnut, Luke Chestnut, Jacob Hoff, Caleb Hoff, Estella Wilson, Jackson Wilson, Kaiden Noseworthy, Remy Rivas, Camren Rivas, Ilea Davila.
Lee was born in Oakland, California, to Anne and Richard Hearsum. She was raised in Illinois by her mother and step-father. She graduated from Golden High School in 1953. She then attended nurses training at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Il. In 1957, she began her 49 year career as both a nurse and teacher in Illinois and Arizona. Upon retiring, she lived in Florida for 10 years with Bob, before moving to Colorado Springs (after his death), a place very special to both of them.
