Beverly (Brown) James Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of Beverly (Brown) James announces her passing on the morning of September 23, 2025, in Colorado Springs, CO. Bev, as she was known, was born in Shelby, MT to Clara and James Brown on February 22, 1943. Her family moved to Powell, WY where she graduated from Powell High School in 1961, and where she attended Northwest College, earning her AA degree.

On August 17, 1963, Bev married the love of her life, Michael “Mike” James, and they eventually settled in Colorado. They had two sons, Tyler and Todd. Tragically, Mike was killed in the line of duty as a Colorado State Patrolman on December 18, 1975, in Limon Colorado. Bev and her sons returned to Powell, WY in 1977, where she lived until moving to Colorado Springs in 2006. Bev was an extremely dedicated sports mom who was known to travel 7 hours each way to attend one of her sons’ games or events. Bev also volunteered at her sons’ schools and at The First United Methodist Church. During her years in Powell, Bev was known to have enjoyed several jobs which included: driving a sugar beet truck during harvest season, working at McGlathery’s Florist and Greenhouse, and working at the Northwest College Book Store. Her children and grandchildren were always her pride and joy, so in 2006 she moved to Colorado Springs to be closer to them all.

Bev settled into a busy life in Colorado Springs, enjoying time with many friends and family, bunco nights, water aerobics, and lunches out with friends. She volunteered and eventually worked at Grant Elementary School. Bev bravely battled breast cancer in 2008 and beat it into submission. She was later diagnosed with lung cancer in 2023, and once again, she beat cancer.

Beverly was preceded in death by her parents Clara (Lippman) Brown and James Brown, brother Delwin Brown, brother Delbert Brown, sister-in-law Anne Brown, nephew Jeff James, nephew Mark James, great-nephew William Hanna, and great-nephew Tanner Miller. Beverly is survived by her sons Tyler (Donna) and grandchildren Collin, Reilly, and Aedan of Windsor, CO, and her son Todd (Jennifer) and grandchildren Zaccary and Joshua of Colorado Springs, sister-in-law Margaret Brown Heald, brother-in-law Jarold “Murph” James, sister-in-law B’Ann Johnson, sister-in-law Patricia James and several nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held on October 24 at 2:00 at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, 3010 W. Bijou St., Colorado Springs. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that contributions be made to the Colorado State Patrol Family Foundation, cspff.net. This would honor Bev’s memory in a deeply meaningful way.
