Francis (Frank) J. Barry Jr. died peacefully May 5, 2026, after a long decline from Alzheimer’s disease. Frank was born February 13, 1951, in Jersey City, NJ. His childhood was marked by a move to Kingston, NY, where he spent his days playing in the IBM pool and competing in basketball for his high school. Frank attended Georgetown University, where, in addition to his studies, he volunteered as a medic during the national protests against the Vietnam War.
Frank completed his medical degree at Georgetown University School of Medicine, then moved to Denver to complete his residency in family medicine. In Denver, he cultivated his love of the outdoors, exploration, and service to his patients. Frank and Mary met in Denver, married, and settled in Colorado Springs in 1981, where Frank practiced family medicine until his retirement in 2014.
In his community, Frank was known for his gentle smile, methodical approach to problems, and his devotion to preventive medicine. He was an avid cyclist, riding yearly for the Multiple Sclerosis Society. He and Mary completed many team triathlons with their two daughters, Colleen and Megan, by their side. Frank always had a desire to explore the world; he and Mary were engaged in Nepal on a trip around the world, and as a family they traveled often: to Hawaii to swim and golf, internationally to explore new places, and locally to Breckenridge to Nordic ski, mountain bike, and enjoy a pint at the brewery.
Frank was known by his family to be quick-witted and would occasionally break out in song accompanied by a guitar or accordion. He would never, ever turn down a dessert—especially chocolate. Frank is survived by his wife, Mary; his daughter Megan (husband Kiran), his daughter Colleen (husband Brad); his three grandchildren: Harriet, Mae, and Annie; his sister, Patricia; his brother, Peter. He was preceded in death by his parents, Florence and Francis Barry, and his grandson, Henry. He is loved deeply by his extended family of brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
