Jacquelyn Starkey Obituary

Jacquelyn (Jac, Jake, Aunt Wacky ) Gale Starkey, 67, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 22nd at home in Colorado Springs after a brief but valiant battle with liver cancer.

Jac was born in Bermuda on August 8, 1955 where her father was stationed as a Navy Doctor. Her parents later settled in Albuquerque, NM where she grew up. She was a child of the 60’s always finding a laugh, a joke, and a toke amongst friends.  She was a lover of music and could sell you some ocean front property in Arizona, too. She liked entertaining and playing cards with neighbors and friends, always hearing the phrases 2 for 10 and 3 for 7 or whatever all that meant, when she was kicking your rear at a game of Cribbage. Jac was an excellent cook and made us all fat, so thanks for that, Jac.

Later after spending decades being a mom, singing and entertaining in local coffee shops, playing gigs with some very cool and talented famous as well as infamous musicians, and working as the friendliest and most creative florist you had ever met, she went back to school and received her Bachelor of Social Work from N.M.S.U. in Las Cruces, NM.

She went on to work tirelessly in aiding families as a social worker in and around Grants, Las Cruces, Albuquerque and Truth or Consequences before moving to Denver to be closer to her children and now new grandchildren. She loved her family. More than anything, Jac spent the last 20 plus years hanging with her family and playing the guitar with her son. They made a hell of a pair singing, songwriting and entertaining all of us more non-talented people like me.

Jacque had nothing but love in her heart. She was trusting and kind and was a fantastic soul. She will be greatly missed as she was a force, she was a powerhouse of a human and we were all blessed to have had her in our lives. She is safe now, no pain and no misery. If you find a dime on the ground or you suddenly smell fresh flowers, it is going to be her. Rest in peace Momma. We love you. Forever.

Jacquelyn is preceded in death by her parents, Dr. James L. Pollock, and Barbara A. Pollock, one sister Valerie Pollock, one brother James T. Pollock and her middle-born daughter Heather A. Starkey.

Jacquelyn is survived by her eldest daughter Joslyn E. Starkey and youngest son James Eli Starkey of Denver; and by her best friends/sisters Leslie A. Pollock of Colorado Springs and Barbara A. Kling of Las Cruces, NM. She is also survived by her grandchildren Breanna Kayli Davis, David A. Brown and Grace M. Starkey all of Colorado as well as many nieces and grand nieces and nephews.
