Sebrena Dorothea Forrest

 Sebrena Dorothea Forrest born August 8, 1957, passed away at home on June 11 after a long illness. Sebrena was a gifted Native American activist, ceremonial singer and storyteller. Sebrena was honored and respected by many and loved by those fortunate to share her life’s journey.

A member of the Mohawk Nation, she regularly shared her talents at the Colorado Springs Fine Art Center Imagination Celebration, wrote and performed the musical score for “Adventures of Coyote” for the Children’s Repertoire Theater. She often performed honor songs to welcome distinguished visitors to the Pikes Peak region and universities.

She greatly contributed to the return of Native American powwows at Garden of the Gods and performed at Rock Ledge Ranch. Among her many awards was Elder of the Year by Native American Woman Association in 2017. Her activities to educate and entertain will remain especially notable.

A gathering in honor of Sebrena’s life and spirit is being planned.
