Steven Joseph Matya, 71, of Monument, Colorado, entered eternal rest on June 25. Born on November 23, 1953, in Fremont, Nebraska, Steve was the son of the late Joseph Matya and Phyllis Stack. He graduated from Bergan High School in 1972 and later earned a degree in Business Administration, focusing on accounting from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln.
Steve dedicated over 40 years of his life serving the state and federal government as an auditor and ended his career working for the Department of Health and Human Services. Due to his extensive knowledge of computer technology and impeccable ability to problem solve, Steve was flown to Washington DC to assist the Federal Government in solving an extremely sensitive national security situation, which proved successful. He was highly regarded by his colleagues.
Steve was also known for his kindness, compassion, and dedication to family, friends, and co-workers. In his free time, Steve enjoyed watching sports, caring for and having fun with his daughter and grandsons, and participating in the events in their lives.
Steve is survived by his daughter, Heather Roseblock of Monument, CO (husband Rob); his grandchildren, Steven and Carl Roseblock of Monument, CO; and his brothers, Douglas (Tonya) Matya of Lake Havasu, AZ, Jeffrey (Carrie) Matya of Bellevue, NE, and Timothy Matya of Fremont, NE. He was preceded in death by his
parents.
A celebration of life service will be held in Nebraska and Colorado in August to honor Steve’s life and details will be provided soon. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to 4 Paws 4 Life Animal Shelter and Resue at 3648 N Perry Park Rd, Sedalia, CO 80135. Contact at info@4p4l.org or 303-688-8569. Steve was a natural friend and loving caregiver to several cats and dogs throughout his life, a cause that was dear to his heart.
